Dale Carnegie once said, “We should be aware of the magic contained in a name and realize that this single item is wholly and completely owned by the person with whom we are dealing … and nobody else. The name sets the individual apart; it makes him or her unique among all others.” Excerpt From How To Win Friends & Influence People Dale Carnegie
Once upon a time….Daniel Popa was born in Lascud, Mures, Romania on June 24, 1895. He was raised in a modest four room home constructed with mud plaster and had dirt floors. His parents were farmers and taught him to build an admirable life through hard work and have strong faith as a proud Roman Catholic. In May 1912, Daniel took the opportunity to start his life in a different place and immigrated to America on a ship called the S.S. George Washington. He was just 17 years old when he arrived alone at Ellis Island, New York.
Every Day… Daniel said, “I left to come to America, so that I could earn a better living.” He traveled the country looking for work and found jobs in the steel factories around Cleveland, Ohio and explored the west working for logging camps near Portland, Oregon. In time, his journey lead him to Alexander, Idaho where he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Because of that opportunity… A boy from Romania met a girl from Idaho and found paradise in south east Idaho along the Oregon Trail in a home with his wife Sarah and five children.
Daniel Popa’s dream and vision of a better life came true not only for him, but for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. This is a story so familiar to many about our American immigrant forbearers and their pursuit of happiness as they sought the American Dream. Dreams do come true! Nothing is coincidental in our lives and there are opportunities and a greater plan for each of us as we chase our dreams. Daniel Popa’s courage inspires us today and he gave us the legacy of the Popa name. We are so grateful for the Popa name and wanted to make it our official logo and turn Kevin’s design into a reality. The name Popa in Romanian means “Priest” and provides the inspiration for our official logo. The halo celebrates our history and heritage. The long “O” vowel sound in halo also gives the proper pronunciation of our name.
